Smallbore Silhouette Match July 9, 2023

, ,

Another perfect day to shoot! Right around 90 degrees, relatively low humidity encourages competitors to shoot better. Match winner in both Standard and Hunting Rifle was Mathew Copland with a 43 (lifetime best), and a 38, respectively! Hi-Lady was Pam Carlson with a 29×60. Combined A-B Standard Rifle classes with a was Chris Moss with a 22, and new shooter Maya Bienzen won Unclassified with a 14.

The below chart details the match. Our next smallbore match will be August 9. Our next high power match will be August 2nd.

Just a quick note here about high power matches. Our high power matches allow AR’s to shoot. If you were to go to a standard high power silhouette match, you would not be allowed to shoot an AR, due to its .223/5.56mm caliber. Minimum caliber in high power silhouette is 6mm = .243 caliber. There are other issues with the AR preventing it from being used other than caliber, but that’s the most obvious.

This next note is about classifications in smallbore and high power. First of all it takes 3 matches to get the first classification, although, in our matches, I classify you for our matches so you aren’t forced to shoot in Master class by still being in Unclassified. However, if you went to another match, and you did not have a classification from the NRA, and the match director was being hard line, you would probably have to shoot in Master Class.

So here are the scores for classification changes: These were taken from the 2013 NRA Rifle Silhouette classification record book.
