FXRGC’s First Running Deer Match of 2026 is approaching!

, ,

The 21st of June brings us the 2026 Running Deer opener at Fairfax Rod and Gun Club – an event you won’t want to miss!

The Running Deer game is a fun and challenging event that only requires 10 rounds of ammo, and maybe 20 minutes of your time.  The matches are short enough that you can shoot a an additional “redemption” round if you weren’t enthusiastic about your initial score.

The matches are shot at 50 yards on a moving, full size deer target, run when the shooter “calls” for it. The target runs right to left, then left to right and the shooter fires 1 shot per presentation. Each shooter gets one or more “dry runs” to throw the rifle up to your shoulder, check your follow through, etc. before you start for “record.”

The match is only $10, plus your ammo for two tries.

For those that like to plan ahead, our matches this year will be held on 21 June, 19 July, 16 August, 20 September, and 18 October.  We’ve mapped out plenty of opportunities to get “Tuned up” for the Fall Festival match!

In keeping with the event’s theme, participants in the season opener will be treated to venison burgers cooked to order!

Bring your favorite rifle, a box or two of shells, and your appetite to have some fun for only $10.
