FNLAC April 2026
Nothing signed yet…
As of this writing, the moderate governor of Virginia has not signed the slew of anti-2A legislation passed by Virginia’s General Assembly. She has until April 13 to sign said legislation which, if signed, will actuate the most radical transformation of gun laws in Commonwealth history. As a result of this delay, there is little in Virginia for your Friendly Neighborhood Legislative Affairs Committee (FNLAC) to report at this time.
Anticipation
The NRA, Gun Owners of America, and VCDL anticipate nevertheless that our governor will sign these bills, and so do members in the gun industry. MidwayUSA, for example, has issued an email missive: “Due to pending legislation, effective June 15 we will no longer be able to ship magazines with a capacity over 15 rounds, and most semi-automatic rifles, pistols, and shotguns, to the state of Virginia.” They urge their customers to stock up and order in advance of June 15. It is no surprise that sales are up in Virginia.
The Feds
Meanwhile, Gun Owners of America (GOA), with their constant niggling criticism of the no-longer-Attorney-General Pam Bondi at the Department of Justice, have announced their celebration of the president’s decision to remove her from this post. Ms. Bondi persisted in her reluctance, according to GOA, to go all in for Second Amendment rights in America in that she failed to eliminate the pistol brace ban and Biden’s universal background check rule. While the GOA applauds her removal of the $200 fee for suppressors, she nonetheless failed to oppose the very existence of the National Firearm Act, a government organ which restricts 2A rights and represents a more systemic problem in our government. Todd Blanche, who led President Trump’s defense team in the New York trial and in the “mishandling” case of classified documents (no penalties assessed in any of these cases), has been appointed as the interim U.S. Attorney General. Mr. Blanche led the 2A Task Force, established under the current administration, which is under the Civil Rights Administration, thereby reinforcing the idea that 2A rights are fundamental and deserve the same protections as other rights enshrined in the Bill of Rights. The GOA and other 2A rights organizations are optimistic about this change but remain vigilant, as does your FNLAC.
Quote of the Month: Common Sense Revisited
“I will sign legislation into law to make progress on these issues to keep Virginia families safe. I will not veto common-sense proposals like [Governor Youngkin] has done.”
-Abigail Spanberger,
Governor of Virginia on 2A laws
