FNLAC May 2026
The “final” list of new gun laws in Virginia is not complete. This may be intentional: Propounders might be stalling so as to shorten the window for legal challenges before the new laws take effect (July 1). Our “moderate” governor and General Assembly nonetheless have together passed some of the most radical anti-2A legislation in the U.S., opposing the will of a large number of Virginians and shocking much of the nation. They’re nearly done with the initial onslaught, but much of this is unconstitutional and will be defeated in courts. Legal battles await.
The Moderate Governor keeps moderating
For example, the Moderate Governor is on the verge of signing into law legislation which bans commonly used “assault” weapons like the AR-15 (which, your FNLAC recently learned, stands for “Assault Rifle #15”, apparently an unspeakably frightening variant of its 14 predecessors). A U.S. DOJ lawsuit against D.C.’s registration system, which creates a de facto ban on popular firearms nearly ubiquitous among American gun owners, is in progress. Ultimately, our moderate leaders in the Commonwealth (and other states) might be shocked to find such legislative reaches rebuked from on high at the federal level.
Signed, Sealed, Delivered
As promised by the ModGov, the following bills are signed (law):
- Safe storage requirements in vehicles. Schools must inform parents about firearm storage.
- “Ghost” guns banned.“Assault weapons” banned after July1.
- Age restrictions on gun purchases raised from 18 to 21.
- Firearms relinquished from individuals with protective orders, misdemeanor domestic violence offenders.
- Liability for gun manufacturers in gun-related crimes.
Still pending
- Passed by the General Assembly, awaiting the governor’s decision (If she does nothing, they become law):
- “Assault” weapons ban: future sales banned.
- Gun Ban in Mental Health facilities.
Details have been covered in this column previously. See https://vcdl-lis.org.
A Reminder
Former Virginia AG Ken Cuccinelli recently asserted on WMAL radio that the Virginia General Assembly majority is comprised of “Bolsheviks.” As opposed to our state Constitution as they are ignorant of its contents, they march on (our heads). Your FNLAC refreshes your memory with a morsel of Virginia Constitution, which states, “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed” (yes, identical to the US Constitutions’s Second Amendment).
Dealing with the Nonsense
An acquaintance of your FNLAC once asserted, “Dude, it’s not like they’re gonna take away your guns.” We share our retort to this stunning naiveté in order to prepare you for debate with anti-2A zealots interested in debate (not many exist). The Nazi Party confiscated weapons from German citizens before and during WWII. The Bolsheviks took weapons from citizens before and after the Russian Revolution (1917). The British seized weapons stored in Concord, Massachusetts as tensions escalated before the Revolutionary War. Throughout human history, dating back to pre-Biblical times, the blunt will of totalitarianism has been exposed in the confiscation of arms.

“Not a single smith was to be found anywhere in Israel, because the Philistines had said, “Otherwise the Hebrews will make swords and spears”… And so on the day of battle neither sword nor spear could be found in the hand of any of the soldiers with Saul or Jonathan. Only Saul and his son Jonathan had them.” 1 Samuel 19, 22
