The following are the Wednesday Night Trap League Rules.  Read and heed....

1.       Introduction

This document represents the league rules for the Fairfax Rod and Gun Club (FRGC) Wednesday Night Trap (WNT) league.  The WNT operates with the authority of the FRGC Board of Directors.  The WNT Director and the WNT Deputy Directors are responsible for the communication of these rules and operation of the League.

2.       Team Structure

  • A WNT Trap Team shall consist of five shooters.
  • Non FRGC club members are allowed on a WNT Trap Team, but the Team Captain must be a FRGC club member.
  • A minimum of three shooters shall be present for competition or a forfeit will be declared.
  • One substitute shooter may be used on a given evening by a WNT Trap Team.
  • Up to two Shoot-Aheads may be used on a given evening by a WNT Trap Team.
  • Practice rounds for all members are to paid for in accordance with FRGC policy.
  • WNT team members are expected to act at all times in compliance with FRGC safety policies, FRGC club rules, and the principles of good sportsmanship.

3.       Scoring and Handicaps

  • Each WNT Team will compete against another WNT Team in two Trap rounds in a given week.
  • A handicap average is calculated for each shooter based on the last 200 rounds shot.  90% of the difference between this average and 25 will be the shooter’s handicap for that week.
  • The shooter’s score shall be their raw score plus their handicap not to exceed 25.
  • Based on the three highest individual scores for each round:
    • one point will be awarded for winning the first round
    • one point for winning the second round
    • one point will be awarded for the highest total for both rounds.
  • A scoring referee shall be provided by the team shooting on a given field at the other time slot.  For example, the team shooting at 745PM shall provide a referee for the 7PM shoot, and vice versa.
  • In the absence of a refereee, a Team may draft a volunteer or self-referee.

4.       Shoot-Aheads

  • Each team captain is allowed a set number of shoot-aheads per league to be used at his discretion.
  • The number of Shoot-Aheads is based on the length of the League.  This number will be published at the Captain’s Meeting prior to the League Start.
  • Shoot-aheads can be accomplished at any time prior to competition, but must be fired at Fairfax Rod & Gun Club (FRGC).
  • A disinterested person (not a team member) must score the rounds fired and attest to the scores.
  • No more than two shoot-aheads may be used on one league night.
  • Shoot-Ahead scoresheets are to be placed in the TRAP (not the Skeet) Shoot-Ahead box in the FRGC club house.
  • Non-members are required to have a FRGC member present for Shoot-Aheads or practice rounds.

5.       Safety and Gun Rules

  • The official FRGC range rules are the controlling authority for all safety issues.  Any conflict between WNT rules and FRGC rules shall be enforced in favor of FRGC rules.
  • All shooters are required to read and understand the FRGC safety rules
  • WNT Team members who are not FRGC members are guests of the Club and are expected to act with honor and respect.
  • Guests are also expected to limit their presence to their designated shooting field, the parking lot, and the club house.  Under no circumstances should a guest ever be off the area defined by the active Trap shotgun fields, the parking lot, and the club house.
  • Guests who violate an FRGC safety rule or their guest privileges are subject to League expulsion at the discretion of the WNT Director.
  • FRGC Club members who incur a club policy violation will be referred to the FRGC Board of Directors.
  • Any gauge gun may be used during a league that is compliant with FRGC policy.

6.       Schedule and Forfeits

  • The League schedule shall determine a given night’s competition.
  • Teams will shoot at either the early time or the late time as directed by the schedule, for example at 7PM or 745PM.
  • Under no circumstances shall any shots be fired after 9PM.
  • Late arriving team members may shoot for score as space and time permits.
  • If there is an odd number of teams, each team will compete once against an imaginary team, Team X.  For Team X the scores from another team in the league will be randomly and blindly selected for Team X at score compilation time.
  • If the team beats that randomly selected set of scores for Team X the points are awarded as normal.  If Team X wins, there are no points given to Team X or the randomly selected team.
  • If a forfeit occurs the opposing team must be present to be awarded three points; otherwise, each team is awarded 0 points.
  • Any scores posted by a forfeiting team will not be used to compute handicaps, but will be used at league's end in determining winners of individual awards.
  • The scores shot during a forfeited match may also be used as future shoot-aheads, if declared in advance.

7.       Awards

  • The following are the WNT Awards:
    • Team awards for first, second, and third place
    • Individual awards for Most Improved, Most Caps, Most Straights, and High Average Lady
  • Awards will be made in the form of a gift certificate to Signal Hill Supply
  • In the event of a team tie for first, second, or third place, the winner will be determined by the head-to-head competition results during the regular League competition.  If this does not resolve the tie, the awards shall be split.
  • Individual award ties shall be resolved by individual overall average.  If this does not resolve the tie, the awards shall be split.
  • No shooter may receive more than one individual award.

8.       Grievance Jury

  • A Grievance Jury may be requested by a Team captain, WNT Director, or WNT Deputy Director to address a shooter’s violation of League rules.
  • Violations of FRGC rules are not within the scope of the Grievance Jury authority.  These violations are directly referred by the WNT Director to the FRGC Directors or their designee, such as the Safety Chairman, for action.
  • The Grievance Jury will consist of the team captains, the WNT Director, and any WNT Deputy Directors present.
  • The Grievance Jury has the authority based on its findings to adjust individual scores, adjust team competition results, or disqualify and individual shooter or team.

9.       League Fees

  • The WNT League fees will be announced in advance of the season’s start and be in accordance with FRGC policy.
  • All fees are due no later than the the second week of league competition.
  • Violators of the fee deadline are subject to disqualification at the WNT Director’s discretion.
